Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Chapters 16 - 30

Asalaam Alaikum everyone,

Hope everyone is having a good day and is enjoying the summer!

So here are the questions for chapters 16 - 30.   Please answer any two by Friday.

I will also post an essay that you'll have the remainder of this week and the next week to work on.    You may email them to me and Ramona Auntie as attachments.  If you can't, give any one of us a call and we'll walk you through the process.

Ramona Auntie and I will provide feedback on the essays while you guys read up on our next book - The Ranger's Apprentice - Book 1.

Questions for Chapters 16 - 30.  Goes without saying - you need to provide supporting argument.  Don't just tell me what you think, but also tell me why you think it.  Show me proof from the books.

  1. Do you think Willy Wonka knew all along which child would win?  Why?
  2. Why did Willy Wonka want a child as the owner of the factory?  Why did he think grownups were not suited for this position.  Do you agree with his analysis?  BROWNIE POINTS - Research the history of chocolate factories in those times.   You'll see why this fictional story was inspired by true events
  3. How would Charlie have reacted if he hadn't found the golden ticket, or if he hadn't won?  How would his life be?
  4. Is the author sending a message from this story?  What is it?  Do you agree with it, or disagree?
  5. Have you ever experienced anything in life that would make you relate to Charlie?  What?  And how would you relate to him?  What did you do, or did you not do?
  6. Why do you think Grandpa George, Grandma Georgina, Grandma Josephine were scared to go to the chocolate factory?  Shouldn't they have been excited?

Love,
Aunt Saima and Aunt Ramona

  1. 1) I think Willy Wonka knew that Charlie would win because instead of trying to win he was acted like him self and he was selfless so he didn't care of himself, but cared about others and he wasn't selfish like Augustus with candy or Violet who cared so much about gum or Veruca and the fact she gets whatever she wants just by screaming (most unusual I'll say) or Mike and his television addiction. On p.g. 142 it said he had a hunch that Charlie would win

    2) I think grownups were not suited because grownups are serious and he is a grownup acting like a child and unserious and on p.g. 151 it said he thinks grownups will not listen to him, learn and try things there own ways, but kids are fun, excited and want to learn things with lots of fun added in.

  2. 1. I think Willy Wonka knew which child would win. We all know that Charlie won but he was the won who was poor. When I see someone who has less money you can probably expect them to be really nice. When you see someone who has everything I think they will probably be greedy. Like Veruca if I remember correctly she gets what ever she wants, she gets what ever she wants because here dad is rich.

    6. I think that they should not have been scared. I think they could have been scared though because they thought it was a lie. They could have also been scared because they did not want to go so they were acting scared. Another reason is that they may have just not wanted to get out of the bed.

  3. 3) He would have been disappointed, but at the same time everyone around him would have expected that to happen and tell Charlie that the chances of winning were very low. His life would go on to be the way it already was. Food would be low and they would continue to live in a small house with little money. Mr. Bucket would have to go and find a job that gives him more money to help out his family.

    6) I believe that the grandparents(excluding Grandpa Joe) were scared to leave the house because they really didn't have a clue what was going on. We all know someone that is older than us and know that as they get older their brain doesn't work at its peak levels and comprehension sort of falls. This is what has happened to the old grandparents and thus they are scared for what they can not understand.

  4. 2) Willy Wonka probably did't want adults to work because kids since they are young they could work in the factory for longer time. I also agree on what Nimah said about the adults not listening to how to do it. They would probably do it their own way. But with kids they would learn and be taught easily.

    3) Well what would there be to write about. When Charlie found the dollar bill he would have ate two but not fInd the the golden ticket. Then he wouldn't have been exited when he got home. And also that he would have gone to bed at the time. And the whole story would be boring

  5. 3)Whenever Charlie bought a chocolate bar, he wasnt really hoping for the ticket. Sure, he wanted it, but he was determined that he didnt have a single chance of getting it. So I think he wouldnt feel very disappointed, only ever so slightly. And his life would go on as normal, except he got a few extra bars a chocolate :D.

1)I think Mr. Wonka had a hunch that Charlie would win. Although lately I noticed if anyone has a hunch in a movie or a book (save a few nonfiction books), they usually turn out to be true. Some reasons why Mr. Wonka might have thought Charlie would be the winner include Charlie being the most humble of the five children who won the tickets from the bars. Also, Charlie was the only one who actually got the ticket by luck. The others had huge factories or bought thousands until they found it.
