Asalaam Alaikum. Hope all of you are doing real well. Great job with finishing the two books! Most of you are done with your blog assignments also! Yay!
So onto our first essay discussion/write-up. Ramona Auntie and I would like to ask you guys to write a compare and contrast essay. You will be comparing the two protagonists, Charlie and Jody, of the stories you read. Below are some guidelines regarding what we would like to see in your essay -
ONLY FOR NIMAH - Substitute yourself for Jody. Follow the guidelines below, but compare YOURSELF and Charlie.
- The essay should be atleast 5 paragraphs
- There should be one introduction paragraph and one conclusion paragraph within these 5 paragraphs.
- There should be atleast 5 sentences in each paragraph
- All your opinions should be supported
- Provide atleast 6 traits that you are comparing/contrasting. That means, 3 traits that are similar, and 3 that are different. PROVIDE SUPPORTING EVIDENCE FROM THE BOOK
- Hints for comparing/contrasting -
- What sort of outlook on life do both the protagonists have?
- What sort of relationships do both kids have with their respective family members?
- How do both kids react to circumstances in their lives?
- What are the living circumstances for both the kids?
- Compare and contrast ANY trait, ANY similarity or difference between these two. Provide supporting evidence!
Okay kiddies - off you go. You have till next Sunday night to give us your first draft. Ramona Auntie and I will read them, provide feedback just to you, and then you can fix/adjust/modify your essays a bit based on your corrections, and then give in your final draft by the end of the following week.

Please email Aunt Saima and I your first draft and we will provide feedback to make your paper better. Please remember that good writers often do several drafts and revisions before their work is published. You will never write a great essay the first time you committ the words to paper - it is a process. Take your time and add descriptive adjectives and exciting words.

In this essay I will talk about Charlie from the book Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and me. What I will talk about is 3 similarities and explain them. I will also talk about 3 differences with reasons.
ReplyDeleteOne similarity is that Charlie goes to school. I go to an elementary school. One example in the book is he passes the chocolate factory while coming back from the school and takes deep breaths. Another example on his way back from school he found a dollar bill, which he used to buy two chocolate bars.
Another similarity is that Charlie is caring. He’s caring because he shared his food with his family even when they said no. I care for others when I help my grandmother walking. Another case is when I help my friends when they get hurt I ask the adult nearest to me for help.
A third similarity is that Charlie lives with his grandparents. I live with my nana (grandfather) and nani (grandmother). He lives with Grandma Georgina and Josephine his 2 grandmothers and Grandpa George and Joe his 2 grandfathers.
A difference is he is poor. I am not poor. I know this because he has little food. He also has shabby and dirty clothing.
Another difference is that he’s a boy. Since I’m a girl I will be more emotional I won the chocolate factory I would scream and shout a lot.
A third difference is that Charlie has 2 grandmothers. I have 2 grandfathers one from my mother’s side (nana) one from my dad’s (dada). I only have 1 grandmother the one from my mom side (nani) is alive, but the one from my dad’s (dadi) is passed away. Charlie has his 2 grandfathers (Grandpa Joe and George), but he also has 2 grandmothers (Grandma Georgina and Josephine).
As you can see I have many similarities and differences between Charlie and me. These are only a few of many. I hope you may try to find some your self not only with Charlie, but others.
